Sony Ericsson today unveiled an 8.1-megapixel phone with an unlimited movie download service. The new W995 will be bundled with Entertainment Unlimited, Sony's upcoming subscription-based movie service. Users will be able to download films to a PC and then transfer them over to phones.
Entertainment Unlimited will also integrate the W995 into other home electronics letting consumers view high-quality content through TV, PC and Hi-Fi systems.
The handset will also include Media Go, Sony's download application, to transfer audio, photos and videos between the phone and a computer.
"With Media Go there's no need to worry about format, resolution and 'frame per second' anymore." said Alexandre Cardon, Global Marketing Business Manager at Sony Ericsson. "No longer will the video you transferred from your PC to your phone play in low resolution or bad quality. With Media Go and the W995 the experience is as good on your phone as it was on your PC."
The W995 has a built-in stand to watch videos with built-in stereo speakers. It comes with Clear Stereo, Clear Bass and HPM-77 premium headphones.
Users can take photos with the 8.1-megapixel auto-focus camera with photo flash and face detection.
"The W995 Walkman phone brings together the very best music experiences of any phone, augments this with best in class video and sharing capabilities to offer the most complete communication entertainment package to date." said Cardon. "This powerful mobile phone delivers the best possible video resolution that can fit in your pocket and with enough battery stamina to watch two full length feature films."
The Sony Ericsson W995 will be available in starting the second quarter in the colors Progressive Black, Cosmic Silver and Energetic Red.
